International Education, Language, and Teaching Qualifications Framework (IELT-QF)

IELT- QF Background

The IELT-QF (International Education and  Language Teaching Qualifications Framework) is a global initiative established by GAIN IETTI GLOBAL TESOL ACADEMY, the IETTI International English TEFL TESOL Institute, and GAIN The Global Teachers Academy International Network.

It acts as an independent guide that maps GAIN IETTI's TEFL and TESOL qualifications against the recognised International Qualifications Frameworks used in Asia, Australia, the USA, and the United Kingdom.

IELT-QF Development and Implementation

This framework is the result of a collaborative effort by the GAIN IETTI Global Academic and Examinations Board (GEAB), the Global English Language Teaching Advisory (GELTA) Board, and the Global Masters Trainers and Assessors Council (GMTAC). These boards comprise distinguished practitioners, authors, educators, trainers, assessors, and teachers of English Language Teaching (ELT) selected from around the world. The IELT-QF framework is strictly implemented as the global standard and guideline for qualification mapping by GAIN IETTI's accredited, authorised, and approved partners. These partners include universities, language centres, and members of the Global Education and Training Providers (GETP) network across Asia, Australia, the United Kingdom, Europe, the USA, North and South America, the Middle East, and North Africa.

Benefits for Employers and Learners

The framework also serves as a global reference for employers and industries worldwide. It allows them to easily understand the equivalence of each IELT-QF qualification within the wider international qualifications framework.

What is the CEFR?

  • The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (CEFR) is a widely used international standard for describing language proficiency.

  • It was developed by the Council of Europe as a way to standardize language learning, teaching, and assessment across Europe. Its use has now spread globally.

  • The CEFR divides learners into six broad levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2. These levels are further grouped into three categories:

    • Basic User: A1 and A2

    • Independent User: B1 and B2

    • Proficient User: C1 and C2

The EAQUALS Framework for Language Teacher Training and Development

The EAQUALS Framework for Language Teacher Training and Development is a tool designed to help language teachers assess and develop their professional skills. Here's a brief overview:

  • Focus: It describes the key competencies required of language teachers, including knowledge, skills, and attitudes.

  • Phases of Development: It outlines these competencies across three phases of professional development, from novice to experienced teacher.

  • Self-Assessment: It encourages teachers to use the framework for self-assessment and reflection, helping them identify their strengths and areas for development.

  • Use by Managers: It also assists managers in identifying training needs and planning professional development programs for their staff.

  • Comprehensive: The framework covers a wide range of areas, including planning, teaching, assessment, language and culture issues, and professionalism.

Essentially, the EAQUALS Framework provides a structured way for language teachers to evaluate and improve their skills throughout their careers.
